Essential equipment for freeride skiing

This winter, Therm-ic became a partner of the Freeride World Tour, the ultra-spectacular reference circuit where the world's best freeride skiers compete!

This partnership makes sense, because for over 30 years our business has been designing comfort solutions that enable sportspeople to express their full potential, even in the most extreme conditions. How do we do this? By keeping their bodies at the right temperature and making sure their hands and feet are warm, no matter how cold, windy or wet it gets.

Ultra-warm mittens, heated gloves, socks & baselayers: our expertise lies in accompanying freeriders to the very edge of their abilities, on the steepest snowy slopes on the planet.

So, in the company of Marcus Goguen, our ambassador and new nugget on the Freeride World Tour, discover all the Therm-ic equipment that's essential for freeride skiing. How do you stay warm when skiing off-piste? The answer is here!

"Ultra-warm mittens, heated gloves, socks & baselayer: accompanying freeriders to the furthest reaches of their abilities, on the steepest snowy slopes on the planet, is what we do best.

What Therm-ic equipment is essential for freeride skiing?

By way of introduction, we think it's essential to list all the products specifically designed by our R&D team to accompany you on your off-piste outings.

The choice of skis and the presence of safety equipment are crucial. But at Therm-ic, our expertise in thermoregulation has led us to work on another aspect: how to keep you warm throughout your day of freeride skiing?

That's why we've designed a whole range of high-performance equipment to keep your body at the right temperature and combat even the most extreme cold:

  • Firstly, gloves, including the ‘pro model’ Therm-ic Extra Warm FWT Edition co-developed with the Freeride World Tour champions; or the ultimate in heated ski gloves: the Freeride Ultra Heat heated gloves.
  • Then there are our technical socks, both compressive and heated, all of which promise lightness, comfort and breathability.
  • Then there's our Ultra Warm S.E.T® heated baselayer, based on an innovative heating technology that ensures even, 360° heat distribution.
  • And finally, our neckwarmers, essential for their protection and versatility.

What are the best gloves for freeride skiing?

What ultra-warm gloves do you need for off-piste skiing? The question seems to us to be ‘quickly answered’: the best gloves for freeride skiing are those worn by the world's best freeriders on the Freeride World Tour.

Co-developed with, then approved by champions: that's the best argument for our Therm-ic Extra Warm FWT Edition freeride ski gloves and mittens!

These little jewels of design and innovation meet the specifications given to our R&D team by the Tour's athletes: ‘Warmth, waterproofing, precision and durability, to keep our hands warm and dry whatever the conditions, even the most extreme’.

  1. Primaloft Gold technology, the best on the market in terms of insulation, ensures warmth and keeps your hands warm, even in the extreme cold.
  2. The gloves are covered by a Sympatex membrane. A membrane that meets a formidable challenge: providing impeccable waterproofing while retaining optimum breathability, so that moisture from the snow and perspiration don't get between your fingers.
  3. The goatskin leather composition, combined with Kevlar, gives these gloves rare durability and resistance. Freeride and freerando skiers can put their hands just about anywhere: on abrasive rocks on the way up, or on your edges while performing tricks on the way down.
  4. Improved grip thanks to short cuffs. These give you maximum dexterity and grip when holding your poles and making precise movements.
  5. An eco-responsible design: these extra warm gloves for winter sports are made from 60% recycled materials. We want to do our bit and look after the hands of freeride skiers and the planet as best we can.
  6. Therm-ic Extra Warm FWT Edition gloves are also available as FWT Edition mittens. This versatility makes them a must-have for all freeride disciplines, whether you're skiing or snowboarding!

Why use heated gloves for freeride skiing?

Because heated gloves offer extra thermal comfort that can be crucial, even vital, in certain situations: let's not forget that freeride skiing is an extreme sport, practised in the mountains, in a wild environment and in sometimes hostile conditions!

Heated gloves therefore provide extra protection against the intense cold and help prevent sudden changes in the weather. In fact, the main advantage of our Freeride Ultra Heat leather gloves is that they offer 3 levels of heating that can be adjusted according to the surrounding cold. Why do they do this? To ensure that the heat is perfectly adapted to your needs and to prevent you from sweating, as humidity is the worst enemy of comfort!

Freeride days are often punctuated by short climbs where your body heats up and long descents where it cools down, so our heated gloves are the ideal solution for prolonged comfort.

Add to that a 6-hour battery life, exceptional resistance thanks to a goatskin leather and Kevlar composition, a waterproof and breathable 10K10K membrane and outstanding agility thanks to a preformed construction with no excess material on the palm, and you've got the ultimate in freeride ski gloves!

‘Heated gloves offer extra thermal comfort that can be crucial, even vital, in certain situations!’

What equipment is Marcus Goguen, the new nugget on the world freeride ski scene, using?

Junior World Champion in 2023, then 2nd in the overall FWT ranking in 2024 in his first year with the ‘big boys’, Marcus Goguen is emerging as the new nugget of world freeride skiing.

Here are the essentials for the Canadian rookie and Therm-ic ambassador to perform on the snowy slopes of the Freeride World Tour:

  • Therm-ic Extra Warm FWT Edition gloves for competitions and training sessions; Freeride Ultra Heat heated gloves (product link) for long days of mountain adventure, made up of approach walks & long descents, more exposed to the vagaries of the weather.
  • GFX Compression Genuflex ski socks. Compression socks are the new benchmark in terms of comfort, insulation and breathability, because they activate blood circulation while offering an exceptional fit, unrivalled precision and maximum stability for muscles, tendons and joints. All these features make these compression socks a perfect ally for Marcus Goguen. These are the details and marginal gains that turn great performances into great victories.

As with his gloves, Marcus Goguen opts for freeride heated socks when the days in the mountains get longer; when competition gives way to adventure; or when the Celsius degrees plummet.

The choice is between Ultra Warm Comfort S.E.T® socks and Ultra Warm Performance S.E.T® socks, both with S.E.T® technology. A game-changing technology that distributes heat evenly. How does it work? By replacing localised heating points with a thin 2mm line discreetly integrated into your garments. Imperceptible, this subtle band of heat wraps around your feet, hands, back or stomach, without forgetting the smallest mm2 of skin.

Find out more about S.E.T® technology

  • Marcus Goguen never forgets its first Ultra Warm Baselayer S.E.T®, which also features S.E.T® technology, and is available for both men and women. Slip this ultra-innovative baselayer under your ski coats for unrivalled warmth and softness, with perfect moisture management.
  • And last but not least, the Therm-ic neck warmer is an essential piece of equipment. Choose from a wide selection of ultra-technical products, and adapt them to suit the cold conditions!
